UNESCO World Heritage considers the Galapagos islands under threat of losing their rich ecosystems. Challenges include increased residential and commercial building, unsustainable tourism numbers, and invasive species. In collaboration with ABITA, island governors, NGOs, and the Ecuadoran government, a plan for sustainability initiatives are in motion. Our contribution includes establishing a model community on Isla Isabella that will demonstrate agritourism (farm to table), geotourism (managed visitation of flora, fauna on land and sea), and adventure tourism (adventure sports and recreation to stimulate and sustain high revenue for the local island communities).
